More goals expected from Santos' deadly duo

11 April 2008

The deadly duo. The terrible twins. The predatory pair. Call them what you want, the partnership between Eleazar Rodgers and Erwin Isaacs has struck fear among defenders across the entire Absa Premiership.

Red-hot combination : Isaacs and Rodgers

And the two Engen Santos strikers are ready to continue their amazing run of form when the Cape club takes on Jomo Cosmos at Athlone Stadium on Friday night (kick off 8pm).

Over the last few weeks, since head coach Major David bright moved Isaacs to a more forward role, in the hole behind Rodgers up front, the goals have flowed for both players.

What's more, they have set each other up regularly, with an almost uncanny understanding developing between the two.
Rodgers gave some insight into how he and Isaacs have managed to forge such an exciting and entertaining partnership.

"I guess it's because we are both natural attackers and we love scoring goals," said Rodgers. "We are both quick and the runs we make creates space for the other.

"We no doubt have a clever understanding and know the strengths and weaknesses of each other's game.
"Something has clicked and we have made the most of it by scoring whenever the chances have present itself."

It is on the back of the form of the two strikers that Engen Santos have gone on a remarkable 10-game unbeaten winning streak - nine wins and a draw.

They certainly don't want to stop there... and Cosmos will be the latest PSL side looking to get the better of Bright and his bunch of magnificent footballers.

Rodgers is expecting a tough clash against Cosmos. He knows it won't be easy.

As for his own form, Rodgers says scoring and setting up goals over the last few weeks have been great, but he believes there is still room for improvement in his game.

"I think I'm getting there slowly but surely," said Rodgers. "There's still a lot of hard work ahead. I want to be very good at what I do... and I believe there is still place for improvement. I'm still not where I want to be, but I'm getting there."

Well, if that's the case, and Rodgers is still not happy with his performances, then Cosmos better watch out on Friday night. Because when this guy gets it fully right, it could get nasty for the opposition.
