The result leaves the Cape side four points off log leaders Ajax Cape Town and SuperSport United,
Chiefs started the game brightly and were on top for most of the first half as they dominated ball possession.
By and large though, the Cape side’s defence was not unduly troubled as Amakhosi failed to find a cutting edge in the final third of the field.
The only chances of the first 20 minutes saw Mabuthi Khenyeza and Shaun Bartlett failing to come anyway near finding the target with their headers.
In the 22nd minute a mix-up in the Chiefs defence saw Tawonga Chimodzi taking a snap shot at goal from only six yards out, but the ball flew too close to Ithumeleng Khune, who made a good reflex save.
Thirteen minutes later the Soweto side nearly took the lead when David Mathebula’s fiercely struck shot deflected off Thom-Rick October and inches wide of goal.
Santos’ game-plan seemed to sit back and soak up the pressure, before catching Chiefs on a quick break and this is exactly what materialised in the 43rd minute as the Cape Town team implemented a counter-attack to perfection.
Eleazar Rodgers was the creator, using his pace to coast past Moketi Tsotetsi before brilliantly squaring the ball to Chimodzi, who took his first PSL expertly by slotting past Khune from 12-yards out.
The second half got off to fast-paced start and again in was Amakhosi who enjoyed most of the ball possession.
Their efforts were finally rewarded on the hour mark as they grabbed the equaliser when Tsotetsi headed Mathebula’s free kick into the back of the net.
In the 77th minute Chiefs came close to replicating their goal when Jimmy Tau swung in a cross from the right, but Fabian McCarthy’s back-post header was just off target.
