CROWIE’s CORNER: part X

30 September 2008

A long season for the youth teams at our club is slowly drawing to a close. This weekend (4th Oct 08) is scheduled as knock-out final day.

As we all know at youth development level, it is not only about winning but more about improving the individual. But with winning comes that mental strength and winning mentality. After all, youngsters play to win at all times and it is good to see a plan coming together.

I am proud to say that all our Academy teams (U\11, 13, 15, and 17) will be involved in all of the finals to be played in Mitchell’s Plain. I will be the first one to say that soccer players, especially youngsters, learn more when they lose a game or make mistakes - but this time around I will be thinking differently.

The coaches of the different teams must be complimented for the hard work they have put in this season and, as coaches will always remind you, it is not where you start but where you finish.

I am sure they would all like to finish on a high.

These are our successful Academy coaches:

Coaches:

Under 11 – Clive Daries and Donnie Ronnie

Under 13 – Keith America

Under 15 – Gordon Witbooi

Under 17 – Ayyoob Gester and Duncan Crowie

NB: Watch this space/website for trial dates in mid-October
