Having suffered a recent 5 – 0 defeat against Bloemfontein Celtic in Telkom Knock Out Cup, a spirited Engen Santos team is determined to bounce back and return to their winning ways by registering maximum points at home against an opponent that has proven to be a formidable opponent.
Last season these two teams met on three occasions and on two of the meets Free State Stars walked away victorious.
However, Engen Santos, ‘the People’s team’ is well aware that there is much more at stake on the night. A win for Engen Santos will not only guarantee smiles for their fans but most importantly it will aid the plight of young burn victims.
Every goal scored and spectacular save made on the night will contribute towards the ongoing Engen Santos ‘Goals for Charity’ campaign* in aid of the Red Cross Children’s Hospital Trust. More than R800,000 has been raised for this worthy initiative so far, thus bringing the eventual fundraising target of R 1 million by 2010 ever closer.
Engen Santos Team Manager Yusuf Gester commented that the boys have been hard at work since their last game. “All our focus is set now on our league match against Free State Stars. The spirit in the camp is very positive and everybody is hard at work to cement a place in the starting eleven”, said Gester.
“Due to suspension we will be without the assistance of defender Musa Otieno and offensive player Ryan Chapman, however this will in turn create an opportunity for two other players to get a chance to start the match", he added.
Earlier on the evening, Engen Santos Football Club will reward exceptional performances by their junior players by hosting their annual junior presentation from 17h30 to 18h30.

Engen, together with Santos Football Club, has an ongoing commitment to raise funds
in aid of the Red Cross Children’s Hospital’s Burns Unit. Funds are raised at selected
games where a goal scored and a spectacular save made by the goal keeper contributes
R 2 000 towards the campaign.
