This is the view of coach David Bright, who witnessed his side outplay the expensively-assembled Brazilians in the second half at Athlone.
Despite the windy conditions, The Cape side played some attractive football and could well of won the game if a couple of chances had gone their way.
Particularly satisfying for the People's Team is the fact that they managed to maintain a clean sheet against Sundowns - goals have leaked in to regularly this season, and the squad will need no reminding of the fact that their last trip to Bloemfontein saw them concede five times.
Brignt is preferring to stay focussed on the positives which can be taken out of the Sundowns game:
“The team had a morale boosting 0-0 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns and it will serve as great motivation for the coming match against Phunya Sele Sele in Bloemfontein,” Bright told the official website.
" Santos will go to Celtic with the aim of building on the positive performance against Mamelodi Sundowns.”
Bright is also hopeful that he will have a full choice of players to pick from for Sunday's game.
“Tawonga Chimodzi will return from suspension for this match. The squad has a few minor injuries after the recent 0-0 draw against Sundowns, but everyone should be available for selection.”
The loss to Celtic in the Telkom Cup will at least serve to remind Santos that Phunya Sele Sele can play a bit, despite the fact that they occupy the bottom position on the league table, with only two points from seven games.
Their dismal league form has been in contradiction to the side's good run in the Telkom Cup, where they have reached the semi-finals.
And then of course the passionate Celtic supporters have the effect of creating a 12th man for their team, so complacency must be out of the question for Santos.
Team manager Yusuf Gester concurs with Bright that Santos can get something out of the trip to the Free State.
"The spirit in the camp is very good after a good team performance against Sundowns on Wednesday past. I am very confident that we will return home with a positive result. "
