Santos square up to Maritzburg United

This weekend’s Absa Premiership action opens with a coastal clash when Engen Santos faces Maritzburg United on Friday night.



With only a point separating these two teams, fans can anticipate a spirited, tactical affair as Engen Santos mentor David Bright and Maritzburg United coach Gordon Igesund go all out to will inspire their players to claim maximum points as both teams aim to improve log standings.

However, fuelled by their commitment towards the ongoing Engen Santos ‘Goals for Charity’ campaign*, ‘the People’s team’ knows the deeper meaning of a victory. Over the past five years, this worthy fundraising initiative has raised more than R800,000, towards the Burns Unit of the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital Trust. Friday night’s game provides Engen Santos another opportunity to boost the campaign barometer even closer to the ultimate target of R 1 million.

Engen Santos Chief Operating Officer Edries Burton comments, “Besides the 1 – 0 defeat result, the team came away with a good defensive performance against Bloemfontein Celtic on Sunday. The players are confident of collecting points against Maritzburg United on Friday.”

He continues, “On the injury side, Musa Otieno Ongao is recovering from a back injury sustained against Bloemfontein Celtic and will undergo a late fitness team, while Tyren Arendse is the only player not available for selection as he is suspended after receiving his third yellow card against Bloemfontein Celtic.”

This PSL encounter kicks off at 20h00.

* Annotation:

Engen, together with Santos Football Club, has an ongoing commitment to raise funds
in aid of the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital’s Burns Unit. Funds are raised
at selected games where a goal scored and a spectacular save made by the goal keeper
