Win gives Bright future hope

23 November 2008

Friday night’s win over Maritzburg United should go a long way towards restoring confidence within the team.

This is the view of head coach David Bright, who believes that his team have been suffering from the jitters, especially up front, as the pressure to win has increased in recent games.

”We are very happy with the performance from the team on the night. We needed the three points and we are happy to have scored two goals and conceded none - it is a good record,” said Bright.

The Botswana coach added: “The players have been under pressure because the team has not been doing well, but I feel that after tonight the composure will return to the team.”

It was not the most convincing of wins - Maritzburg always looked like they were still in the game until the 82nd minute, when Erwin Isaacs (pictured above) killed off the game with a brilliant free kick.

However, there were several positives to take out of the game.

Santos dominated the first half possession wise, and although they squandered a few half chances, Romano Scott restored some confidence to the striking ranks with a well taken 44th minute goal.

Scott showed great composure under pressure to steady himself with his first touch before calmly slotting the ball across the body of the Maritzburg keeper and into the bottom corner of the net.

In the second half The People's Team were put under quite a bit of pressure, but showed good organisation defensively to keep United at bay and hit them on the counter attack when the opportunity arose.

And Isaac's goal was a real beauty – it was his second goal of the season, but more importantly, his second in four games.

It took the Lavender Hill youngster a while to get going this season, but with a couple of goals under his belt there should be no stopping him now and Santos fans will be hoping to see the best of this exciting talent again.
