Celtic made a positive start to the game and had the first chance on goal when Tlou Segolela won the ball on the edge of the area and fired in a volley which Santos keeper Lee Langeveldt did well to save.
It was the home side however who drew first blood when Erwin Isaacs whipped in a corner which was met on the run by Eleazar Rodgers, whose header gave Shu-aib Walters no chance.
Following the goal there were a couple of chances at both ends of the field as Musa Otieno forced a save out of Walters, as did Darrel Smith of Langeveldt in the 25 th minute.
Owen Da Gama’s side had to wait until just before the break for a chance to score.
The opportunity fell to Cape-Town born Mark Mayambela, but unchallenged, he headed Segolela’s corner over the bar.
The early chances in the second half all came the way of free kicks, but Isaacs for Santos, and Moses Spandeel and Mayambela for Celtic all failed to hit the target.
Segolela should have levelled matters for Celtic in the 62 nd minute when he found the ball at his feet 15-yards out from goal in a central position, but his hurried shot flew wide of goal.
Six minutes later Otieno tried his luck for the People’s Team with a half-volley from range, but Walters was well-positioned to make the save.
With Celtic struggling to find any penertration in front of goal, they looked to be headed for defeat.
But with 89 minutes on the clock, substitute Geofrey Serunkuma swivelled in front of goal, before firing a shot towards goal, which went through
Langeveldt's hands and over the line.
