Santos’ glittering end of Season award ceremony took place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
Gabonamong’s achievement came in light of his consistently committed and hard-working displays – both in the centre of defence and the centre of midfield.
In both positions he excelled, always giving 100% for the team’s cause.
The Botswana international played in 28 of Santos’ 30 league games, and also weighed in with three league goals.
Graham King is another player who had a fantastic season for the Peoples Team, although he was desperately unlucky towards the latter stages of the campaign that he was sidelined by injury.
Still, his mastery of the left wing position, which saw his using his pace and skill to devastating effect, earned him the Player’s Player of the Season award, which he shared with Gabonamong.
Zairon van Beulen is another player who showed great tenacity when he got on the park this season, with the former amateur player looking very much at home in the top flight.
He received the Rookie of the Season accolade, while the Most Promising Player of the Season award went to goal keeper Lee Langeveldt.
Now in his second spell with the People’s Team, Tyren Arendse had an impressive season for the club, where his versatility enabled coach David Bright to use him in numerous positions. Arendse’s efforts were rewarded with the Sportsman of the Season award.
Wayne Arendse’s solid displays in defence and professional mannerism earned him the Chairman’s award.
The top goal-scorer award was shared between Ryan Chapman, Eleazar Rodgers, Romano Scott and Musa Otieno.
