Tournament director, Chief organizer for Santos and expert Mitchell’s Plain administrator-
Gilbert Kruger-along with his efficient Local Organizing Committee expects that this year’s event will be even smoother and successful than last year’s tournament.
Kruger had the following message to convey about the tournament:
“First of all I would like to take the opportunity in thanking Engen for providing these young boys with an opportunity to play football. The Tournament’s Local Organizing Committee did their best to ensure that everything is in place for this coming weekend. We can now just expect some good performance s from these youngsters in delivering their very best.”
Last year Engen Santos performed very well, ending up in second position, only losing 1 goal
to 0 against Ajax Cape Town in the final. Even though we did not manage to end up at the top; the following two awards were given to Engen Santos: Coach of the Tournament as well as the Defender of the Tournament
However, this time around, the People’s Team is really keen on taking the BIG cheque home.
The club’s Under 17 Team has shown tremendous progress this season. T hey must try and do as well as they are able to in the tournament, but most importantly enjoy themselves and if they win-it will be a bonus.
At the Tournament, Duncan Crowie will be the Engen Santos U/17 Coach and will be assisted on the bench by Ayyoob Gester, last year’s Coach of the Tournament.
Duncan Crowie-The proud Head of Youth Development at Engen Santos-had the following message to convey about the tournament:
“The U/17 Engen Knockout Challenge is the number one development tournament in the country. This is the type of tournament that gives our youth fantastic exposure. It is a wonderful opportunity for these youngsters to prove their skills against some of the best players in the province. The Knockout Challenge gives coaches an idea of the players’ mental strength, in striving to advance to the PSL team in the near future.”
