Santos looking to bounce back with EzenKosi win

Santos are looking to put the memory of Sunday’s loss to Moroka Swallows behind them when they host Jomo Cosmos at Newlands on Wednesday night.

The Peoples’ Team had a couple of late chances to score against Swallows, but fortune wasn’t on their side as they conceded an 85 th minute goal to lose 1-0.

Now the team is looking to bounce back with a victory over EzenKosi at Newlands.

Back in the PSL after spending last season in the first division, results have not gone Cosmos’ way so far this season as they find themselves in 14 th position with a single win and two draws from five games.

However, the Jomo Sono-coached side are still looking to gel after assembling a new-look squad this season and are likely to provide formidable, and physical opposition.

Santos Chief Operations Officer Edries Burton, who faced Cosmos many times during his own playing career, is hopeful that the Cape side can return to winning ways.

"We are playing Jomo Cosmos and we are looking to pick up the pieces after our last result.

“The mood in the camp is still very upbeat and we are confident of achieving a positive result,” said Burton.

He reveals that Santos have a fully-fit squad for this game.

“We don't have any injuries of note besides a few aches & pains. Furthermore we don't have any suspensions."

One player who in particular will be relishing this match is Santos’ Bongi Macala, a former Cosmos player.

Macala has been outstanding for Santos this season in a more advanced right midfield role – last season he was equally impressive at right back.

The last time these two sides clashed was in 2007/ 2008, when they played to 0-0 and 1-1 draws.
