CROWIE’S CORNER

17 September 2009

Head of Youth Development, Duncan Crowie, talks about the importance of coaches attending courses on a regular basis.

Coaching courses have become imperative for ambitious coaches to attend so that they can develop the players under their control to achieve great heights.

Before I attended my first coaching course I did not see much of a need to attend it. After attending the English FA Introductory course I realized how important it was to attend more coaching courses and how important it is in the learning process of a coach.

A coach should never stop with the learning process because there is always something you pick up at these courses. Your coaching sessions will be more and better structured after attending coaching courses and the development of the player will also systematically improve.

Two of our youth coaches (Donnie Ronnie under 11 and Gordon Witbooi under 19) have just completed their Level 1 course. At the moment three other coaches (Ayyoob Gester under 13, David Notoane Reserve Team and Keith America under 15) are involve in the Level 2 course in Johannesburg. I am also proud the mention that our Ladies Team coach (Faizel Adams) will be attended a coaching course sponsored by Sasol next week (24th September) also in Johannesburg.

All of this can only be good for the youth at our club as we strive to prepare our players for a higher level.

On a very exciting note – I can tell you that news just to hand, shows that every one of our younger Academy teams – from Under 11 through to Under 17 - have won their leagues for 2009 and the Under 19 team, which still has 6 games to play, are in such a good position that we are sure they will also win. Besides these great results three other teams have also won their leagues.

This shows that what I started off the column discussing with you – regarding our qualified coaches – indicates that we are on the right track and this augers well for the current as well as future crop of players who are or will pass through the Academy, will receive the best grounding we can offer them and will allow us to further develop our own nursery of future PSL players.

Thanks to everyone who assisted us in having had such a successful 2009 season.

Regards, Duncan Crowie.
