SANTOS SHARE SPOILS WITH ARROWS

23 September 2009

Santos earned a point on the road, thanks to a lively 1-1 draw with Golden Arrows at a wet Chatsworth Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

It was an entertaining match which saw in the region of 35 shots on goal from the two sides.

The first half saw Arrows enjoying slightly of the ball possession, while both sides had numerous shots at goal.

Arrows had the early chances, but throughout the half they failed to trouble Santos shot stopper Tshepo Motsoeneng, as their shooting remained inaccurate.

The only time Motsoeneng was really called into action was in the 42 nd minute when he did well to save Richard Henyekane’s free kick.

It was the Peoples’ Team however who were more accurate with their efforts, with Erwin Isaacs in particular a live-wire as he brought several saves out of Arrows goal keeper Helton Da Rocha.

The other player to have a good chance for Santos was Ricardo Skippers, but the defender headed Isaacs’ 30th minute corner over the bar.

Two minutes after the break Skippers suffered the misfortune of putting the ball in his own net as he tried to clear the ball after a long throw in, to hand Abafana bes’thende the lead.

The Peoples’ Team however fought their way back and grabbed a deserved equaliser when Isaacs scored with a well-taken free kick from 20-yards out.

Graham King came close to getting a winner with a long range effort in the 77th minute, although Henyekane also fired narowly over the bar for the home side soon after.
