Pirates tough, but not unbeatable
16 October 2009
Both Santos coach Boebie Solomons and captain Mogogi Gabonamong admit that Orlando Pirates will provide the team with a real challenge.
The Peoples’ Team clash with the Buccaneers at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday night (8.15pm kick off).
The approach from Santos appears cautious – they have a healthy respect for their opponents, yet optimistic – the Cape side’s outstanding form this season gives reason to believe that they could upset Bucs in their own backyard.
“It will be a tough game to play against the Buccaneers - the current log leaders. We are playing away from home, which will make it even more difficult for us, but the team as a whole is very positive and confident,” says Solomons.
The Santos coach has hinted that his side could soon be firing on all cylinders as far as goal scoring is concerned:
“We have already proven that we can do well, by delivering positive results. I have worked on creating and scoring goals, which will hopefully show against Pirates.
“The team spirit in the camp is excellent and even though we have got a great amount of respect for Pirates, we are ready to take on the challenge,” said Solomons.
According to Gabonamong, the feeling in the Santos camp is that the players are in a positive frame of mind and have the self-belief needed to beat a top side like Pirates.
“The team is doing well in their preparation for their match against the Buccaneers. Playing against Pirates is like any other game. We must believe in our strength as a team. The players have grown ambitious and improved on their performance as a whole.
“I really respect Pirates. They started off very well this season and are in very good shape, but they are not unbeatable. Santos have a very good record against them and I am looking forward to this match very much,” said Gabonamong
