Boebie: 'We will have to be on our toes'

20 October 2009

Santos coach Boebie Solomons acknowledges that Free State Stars are going to be a tough nut to crack, despite their inconsistency this season.

The two sides meet in an Absa Premiership clash at the Coetzenburg Stadium on Wednesday evening (19H30 kick off).

The Peoples' Team are currently in fourth position on the PSL table, while Stars occupy 12th spot.

While Santos' ever-improving form has seen the team win their three most recent games, Ea Lla Koto have lost two and drawn one of their most recent outings.

Solomons believes that the poor form of late of the Free State side will not make them easy opponents -rather the opposite: Santos can expect a tricky encounter against a side desperate to turn things around.

"The game against Free State Stars is going to be tough, as they are a team that are wounded after some poor results and are desperate to get back into form and start to win some games.

“We as a team also do not have a good track record when playing against them. We really will have to be on our toes as this is our home game."

The Cape side come into this game on the back of a morale-boosting 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates, and good news is that there are no major injury concerns.

"We have a few minor concerns regarding the player's recovery after Saturday's game against Pirates but we are not worried as our squad is large enough to allow us to replace key players should this be necessary.

"After all is said and done we need to pick up maximum points on Wednesday evening.”

Stellenbosch is proving to be a happy hunting ground for Santos this season. The fans have got behind the Peoples' Team in their numbers and the players have responded accordingly. Solomons is appealing for more of the same:

"We would like to ask all of our supporters to come out in their numbers and support The People's Team in the game taking place at Coetzenburg."

PSL side, or your own personal stories while supporting the team over the years...
