Interview with NASIEF MORRIS
15 January 2009
NASIEF MORRIS has long association with SANTOS FC, having played for the club before moving to Greece, where he played for Aris Salonike and Panathanaikos. He is currently playing for Racing Santander in the Spanish La Liga.
Morris made his name at the Peoples' Team as an exciting young defender, starting out at right back before moving into the centre of defence as he matured.
His annual visits to Cape Town keep him in touch with the Santos family, from Mr Goolam Allie to all the old players and coaches, who had influenced his career at some stage ….His visit this time sees him training with the Santos FC PSL team in order for him to stay fit before his return to Spain.
His views on the current SANTOS team: “They have produced results, with the current coach and will take home some silverware. The team is young and has the potential to become a force to be reckoned with now and in the future, they must “take the opportunities and make the best of them …by winning “and more so” by giving exceptional effort all the time every time “.
His views on Bafana Bafana: “I am fit and capable to fit into the side if selected …not taking anything away from the current players. I am willing and want to take my place in the side to serve my country on the playing field.”
On the World Cup: “The players will do the Nation proud and they are very positive and will ensure that they give a good performance in front of the home crowd come World Cup time”
His current club RACING SANTANDER has moved away from relegation zone to number 12 in a league of 20 teams and still have 6 games to play, which he believes they will do very well.
