ENGEN SANTOS TO MAKE THEIR MARK AT NEW CT STADIUM

20 January 2010

2010 marks another exciting chapter in Cape football history as Engen Santos and Ajax Cape Town inaugurate the world class Cape Town Stadium, in Green Point, on Saturday 23 January 2010. Kickoff is at 4pm.

It is fitting that the City of Cape Town chose a classic Cape derby to launch this beautiful 68000-seater stadium. Engen Santos players will have first-hand experience to try out a pitch that will in a matter of months showcase the biggest football stars in the world. The multi-purpose Cape Town stadium boasts special “green” features that is aimed to be completely environmentally-friendly, ensuring optimal water and energy saving.

Engen Santos captain Mogogi Gabonamong comments, “ Looking at pictures of the new stadium I am sure the game will generate a fantastic atmosphere and as we are playing against our neighbours we are very optimistic that this will become a great event in the history of the city.” Sharing his sentiments, Engen Santos coach Boebie Solomons said, “ I feel very good (to play first on the new Cape Town Stadium) and with the excellent opposition, I am glad we were invited. I’m proud to be part of history being made with the team playing on such a fantastic surface.”

However, football fans can expect a hot contest this Saturday as The People’s Team can pull a hat-trick of Cape derby wins, having already defeated the Urban Warriors 2 – 0 (away) and 1 – 0 (at home) earlier this season. Of course, only bragging rights are up for grabs, but the Engen Santos players are all psyched for another Cape derby thriller.

Up for the challenge, Engen Santos’ top goal scorer Erwin Isaacs comments in a one-on-one interview earlier today, “By t he way our team is playing, I am sure we will put in a very good performance. All the guys are training hard at the moment and this game is just what we need to get us up and running for the rest of the season. In answer to your question – yes, it will be three out of three.”

Tickets have been sold out at all Computicket outlets. A help line has been set up for further information on 021 487 6800.
